Slouchy Sweaters

In college, I wore a hoodie every day.  And loved it.  Until someone broke my heart and asked if I could dress up for a change.  Whoops.  I mixed up my wardrobe and found I liked it better that way.  But sometimes I still miss my hoodie.  We used to take naps together, arrive late to class together and even hung out with the same group of friends.

Yesterday, I stumbled upon slouchy sweaters: the grown-up's hoodie.
I am now in heaven.  Enjoy!

How do you stay comfy, cozy and cute?

Stay Warm

This wet, rainy day makes me want to cozy up in a nice warm blanket and take a nap.  I am digging these hobo inspired throws, from Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters, respectively.

I love things bordering on ugly.
It's the aged, rustic characteristics that makes these blankets beautiful.

A Pumpkin Patch

of fall decor choices.
{velvet pumpkins, fabric pumpkins,
book pumpkins, glitter pumpkins}

I am feeling a weeknight craft project coming along!

Don't you love it when kids say "punkin"?  Too cute.

Love for Etsy

In honor of the upcoming holiday, today's post features three musical greats in all of their ghoulish glory.

The prints are linocut designs (hand carved on wood and then hand printed on heavy card stock) by Straw Castle.  The designer, Derrick, is my husband's cousin who also made the Lift Up Nashville poster.  A cool, creative guy.

What are your Halloween plans?  Got a good costume in the works?

Local Favorites: Used Bookstore

I will never own an electronic reader.  When engulfed in a story, I need to turn the page, hold the binding, fold down the corner. And I want the book to be all mine.  The freedom to take my time and read for understanding; or pull an all-nighter and pass the book along to a friend.

Enter 2nd & Charles.  The used bookstore on crack.  Even though the cashiers deny it, it's got to be based on McKay's in Tennessee.  McKay's was a treasured spot for Eric and I.  We bought our textbooks for cheap and racked up on fiction, non-fiction and good music.  On recent trips to Chattanooga, I spent hours perusing the aisles with a goofy grin on my face.

2nd & Charles is exactly the same.  It's huge.  And it has huge potential. Already, I've scored the book Searching For God Knows What, based on a recommendation from a friend; Eric found a blues CD and White Stripes DVD.

You can buy, sell or trade.  Trading is where it's at.  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle people.  As one sign stated:

Go home, pack a box with old paperbacks and CDs and get your trade on. Happy reading!

Love for Etsy

I would love to spend tomorrow morning strolling through our local market with a pretty scarf and fingerless gloves; come home with my honey and slide into wool slippers to work on a Saturday project.  Enjoy!

It's a chilly Friday and I wasn't fully prepared.  These finds are warm and cute-as-pie!  Which one do you like best?

Writing From the Road

I am travelling for work this week.  Staying in a hotel alone requires a silly routine.
1. Talking on the phone until a certain level of sleepiness ensues
2. Watching a bit of TV (usually educational like The Kardashians)
3. Reading (with background noise) by table lamp until I drift into a peaceful rest

Waking up with a glaring light in my face is an inevitable, though necessary annoyance.  If only hotels provided a colorful swing arm lamp to stare at.

Perhaps I will have to create a reading nook in our home and paint a vintage lamp in a bright, inviting color like this redo from The Little Green Notebook.  Enjoy!
My mom and I have a small redo project underway that I am so excited about. In the meantime, check out Better After, my new favorite discovery for before and after inspiration.

It feels good to be back.  I've missed you all!

One Year and a Day

of a fun-filled, fast paced marriage.

I love thinking about our special day.  Below is our wedding story in photos.
(as told through the lenses of Kellen Jacob and his wife, Paula).
We spent our anniversary among friends in the lovely town of Chattanooga: witnessed a new marriage take place (cake, dancing, sweet moments talking by candlelight in the crisp outdoors); road bikes to dinner; slept in and napped; bought used records and books and a locally-made locket necklace; enjoyed our favorite nachos, pasta and tacos (different meals, I promise!); and simply relaxed.  It was wonderful.

Oh yeah... we got robbed.  And yesterday Eric headed back to Birmingham, while I drove to Nashville on my way to Memphis.  Needless to say, I cannot wait to be home Thursday night.  Cuddle up next to my husband and fall fast asleep.

Eric, I sure do love you.
